Alex Galchenyuk and Max Domi each had two goals and two assists, Carey Price made 28 saves, and the Montreal Canadiens beat the New York Rangers 7-3 on Tuesday night.
Charles Hudon had a goal and two assists, Sven Andrighetto, Tomas Plekanec and Shea Weber each had a goal and an assist, and Andrew Shaw also scored for Montreal, which has won its last three. Andrew Shaw added two assists.
Dylan McIlrath, Matt Puempel and Marek Hrivik scored for the Rangers, who started 0-4-1. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 16 shots in his second straight loss.
Galchenyuk scored the game’s first goal at 6:27 of the opening period on a deflection. Andrighetto extended Montreal’s lead to 2-0 at 14:15 when his shot from the left circle deflected in off McIlrath’s leg.
Galchenyuk gave the Canadiens a 3-0 lead midway through the second when he gathered a pass in the slot from Charles Hudon and fired a shot past Lundqvist.
Plekanec, who got a penalty-shot attempt in the first, gave Montreal a 5-0 lead 3:50 into the third on a breakaway after teammate Alex Galchenyuk carried the puck behind the net.
New York finally got on the board at 6:07 when McIlrath skated in from the left side and caught Price out of position. The Rangers pulled Lundqvist for an extra attacker late in the period and Puempel scored on a nifty backhander at 18:12.
Shaw made it 6-2 at 10:42 of the third.
Hudon got Montreal’s sixth at 13:21, when his shot from the left point squeezed under Lundqvist’s left arm. Andrighetto scored an empty-net goal with 2:15 left.
