Politico reported on Monday that conservatives and moderates are tussling over committee chairs as the fight over a government shutdown looms.
“The constitutional Congress and the House have made clear its insistence on an open legislative process, and they now seek to use the introduction of amendments as the pretext for an assault on committee chairmen such as the House Government Reform Committee Chairman Adam Kinzinger, Chairman Mark Meadows and Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen, and, in particular, their choice of body, which has already taken the lead on important legislation and oversight under the presumption of presumed passage,” Meadows said in a statement sent to CNN.
“While we recognize our hyper-partisanship, such actions are an attack on our Constitution and the House Republican Members who bring ideas to the floor, bring transparency to Congress and seek to lift up the American people.”
